20 April 2016 - Ten years after its launch, Microsoft has said it is to stop making the Xbox 360 games console. The remaining Xbox 360 consoles will still be sold as well as the platform being supported for existing users.
Last year Microsoft enabled Xbox 360 games to work on its successor, the Xbox One.
The news of the Xbox 360 being discontinued came via blog post by Phil Spencer the boss of Xbox at Microsoft. In the post he also said "I am incredibly proud of all of the work and dedication that went into development of the Xbox 360 hardware, services and games portfolio over the last decade. And I'm grateful to the fans for their continued passion and support,". He also went on to say "While we've had an amazing run, the realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us."
Gamers had completed more than 78 billion hours of play on the devices according to the blog post.
